I'm tired of the UN and other "poor countries" blaming us and the Europeans for their food issues. It's not food vs fuel, it's food AND fuel. It's not an either or.
Iowa in 2007 produced MORE corn than was needed for both FOOD and ethanol! Record crop. The extra we exported was more than enough for both. In fact, the U.S. exported a record crop. The extra we produced was far more than needed. The prices were NOT because of ethanol. It was investors and speculators - just like the oil bubble. It started with a drought in Australia that caused a bad wheat crop and went from there. As stock drop, investors tend to move to "things" - commodities. That means grains/crops/food, oil, etc. Shoot, we've got corn stored and SITTING here.
These poor countries aren't getting food due to SHIPPING and logistics and politics, there is NO shortage! They want to blame the "rich, wealthy" countries for their woes, and their leaders don't want anyone to know it's THEM standing in the way of their people getting food.
Kissinger once said "control food and you control the world" - guess what....... some leaders know that by controlling the food getting to their people, they can more easily control those people.
In fact, Jan Mickelson's show started as food vs fuel that morning and by the end of the show, they were calling it food AND fuel. ETHANOL is NOT causing the so-called "food crisis" or price swings. It's not supply and demand. This was proven with oil, too.
