With a townhall type of debate, attacking except on the categories covered in the questions cannot be done unless the opponent opens the door. Obama didn't do it. I don't have a problem with that.

Brokaw didn't keep Obama under control. That is almost unforgiveable.

Bill ...I hear you my friend. My sentiments. I was disappointed when Gore lost, more when Kerry lost since I was part of the campaign but I will be DEVASTATED if BO wins. I do not agree with GWB policies (although I think currently in such an economy his tax cuts are imminent ) but I had no problem with him being the president. If we tread the path of socialism ..USA will end up as USSR..period!

I think we need to convert those fears into positive energy. We are left with 27 days..remember JM went from a lead of 4 pts to a deficit of 4 pts in just a week..why can't it be reversed.

we need to make sure each and every JM votes get out and exercise their right. We have passed the time of slacking.

I don't want to give the impression I'm giving up on McCain, but I was disappointed in his performance. He missed a golden opportunity to link Obama to Acorn to subprime lending to the economic crisis. However, he did link Obama to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but I don't think it will resonate with voters.

While I think restructuring mortgages to reflect the current home values may be a good idea, I'm not real clear on how he intends to pay for it. Will it be an additional 300 billion in spending or part of the currect 700 billion bailout? I think it's fair to say that mortgage companies should bear a big part of any mortgage restructuring... this should not solely fall on the taxpayer.

He also missed opportunities to lay out how tax cuts/increases really affect the economy. Not to mention forcing small business owners to cover insurance cost for employees. Any increase in the two will result a reduced workforce. I owned a business making nearly $500,000 a year. I could not afford health care benefits for my employees. What most people don't understand is group benefits cost far more than individual benefits for an average person. I can insure myself for less than $3600 a year. My current employer pays $12000 a year for identical health insurance benefits. That's a lot of money for a small business to afford. If I'm forced to insure my employees, somebody has to go to pay for it. If the fine is considerably less, I'll just pay the fine. Either way, the individual is still screwed.... all we're doing is screwing the employer as well.

Again, Obama is skilled at telling the people what they want to hear. Unfortunately, I don't think most people will do the investigatory work necessary to become and educated, responsible voter. I hope I'm wrong.

One thing we need to remember is that Obama, through ACORN, is pushing to register those voters between the ages of 18-30. However, this age group is also the most unreliable voting group there is. I think it may end being his downfall.

Our business couldn't afford health insurance for our employees. We would have to go out of business.

I mean, I'm pretty new to the political genre and all but since it was basically the candidates answering questions from the people, it is hard to get certain stuff in. I do agree, however, that there were times were Obama left the door wide open for attack but I think McCain wanted to stick on the topics instead of having it turn into a mud fight.

The thing is, this wouldn't have been slinging mud or attacking, but directly responding to the question at hand. Brokaw had asked if the military should only be used when our security is threatened or if we should also use them for humanitarian causes. Obama spoke of the holocaust and Darfur, but McCain could've reminded him and the rest of the country about the horrors that were taking place in Iraq. Maybe there wouldn't be such a generally accepted idea that we're supposed to regret this war if people remembered what pre-war Iraq was like. Maybe a few people might even be proud that our country took down Saddam Hussein.

It just drives me crazy that the party that's supposed to be so concerned about the downtrodden gets away with being so apathetic about the atrocities that took place in Iraq. All they care about is whether it was directly involved in 9-11.
