I hope that they leave some time for McCain to get in some remarks. Obama's stammering could take up the whole time.

What else? They need to be there to comfort O when he gets his ego bashed in by McCain. You know he's going to go on his infamous stumbling bouts. And as I recall, didn't John McCain offer Obama numerous Town Hall debates throughout the summer, that Obama kept turning down? Remember, he doesn't have a piece of paper in front of him this time. He might forget his lines.

Sadly half of the American people are dumb enough to buy it.

McCain keeps repeating that old tired line "I've done it before, I've worked across the table......"
Geesh, that's like 6 times he's used that for an answer! That's not an answer - HOW will you, WHAT will you do??
He's sunk.............
I've fought to reform, I've fought for this, I've got a record - he keeps using that for an answer.

I'm SORRY, you JERK, the COMPUTER was invented at ISU ya moron, not by "a bunch of people in denfense..."
THAT was the Internet! Defense needed a way to make all their computers talk to each other, especially across the country, thus the Internet.
The computer was created HERE, an hour from where I live.
Geesh, another AL GORE!

Agreed. McCain had to win this debate decisevely and so he's losing decisevely. This will most likely seal the deal with many independents.

Luntz group are a bunch of idiots.

McCain did just fine. Brokaw needed to keep Obama to his time limit.

By the way, the people over on Hillary Clinton Forum think that McCain won the debate. So do the people voting on Drudge.

I think the only reason he didn't do so well is because he did not attack...but then again when it comes to debating that is not his style; we know that by now.

Not to mention O & friends would probably go on saying that McCain was a bad temper, went off topic and was "dodging" the issues, etc. Sort of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" moment.

I really don't think he did that poorly. He could have done better, but I think people are throwing in the towels too early with him. He is our candidate (and we got Sarah Palin!!! I WANT HER IN OFFICE NOW!!)..ahem, that being said I think it would be lousy if everyone just gave up now. We got 27 days to work with..it is a squeeze but you never know. Bush was doing poorly with the country in 04 and by some miracle got re-elected.

I've lost all respect (what little I had) for Brokaw.
POOR moderator, he's the judge that calls "TIME"! and he never did. Lights? He can come in and say "time up, you lose" and he never did. WOW, he was BAAAAD.

McCain is uncomfortable in attack mode. He doesn't like it, but if he wants to be prez, he'd better get used to it for the next month.

Seconded.
I love Sarah, she has been attacking, I think that is what the McCain camp wants, she attacks and revs people up, and McCain sticks to serious topics (although it would be nice if he put all in and went on the attack like there is no tomorrow)
As for Sarah!...I think these 4 years are just going to be experience for her, I'm pretty sure McCain is only a one-term "i want to get hacks out of Washington" kind of guy (doing enough to make a difference but not going for a second run) that way, in 2012, we will have an experienced woman, yet no Washington insider, that is still involved with the people, aka Sarah Barracuda... vs. Hillary Clinton...whew! What a race that'll be. If that happens, I will be overjoyed. Sarah would be getting my vote indefinitely though. But really, at this point Hillary is probably a lot more civilized than Obama.

I don't think he tanked at all. He was clearly more forceful and comfortable in this "town hall" setting (even if it wasn't that since Tom *I can't keep time* Brokaw picked the questions and the ones he picked weren't real interesting questions). Listen, it's going to be an uphill battle from now on and he's just started to get tough and will have to keep those gloves off. Sarah is doing her best too! I'm certainly not giving up.

This was by far the most boring debate ever!

I felt BO started strong and JM finished strong. JM did lay 'some' specifics on the economy ( plus ) and he 'tried' to connect ..the basic 2 points i laid out in what he needs to do. This definitely wasn't a game changer but makes the third debate or the next following days very important. If JM can give a satisfactory explaination to the 300B whopper he will get an edge. They need to bring doubts in the mind of voters abt BO and drill the liberal status.

On healthcare it was BO who had the decisive advantage. But the most important topic is economy followed by Iraq(national security) and energy independance. hence according to me JM won by a small margin but do not expect any changes in polls right away.

what was the blooper about computers? I am surprised no analyst caught him on that.

Should have read all the posts before posting ....YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT GIVING UP!.....Have you gone insane. I remember very clearly Kerry was 'termed' as the winner of the debates and we were all very excited. He had developed a lead of about 4 pts 2-3 weeks prior to election day. End result.... case rested!

I'm not giving up Smile
The dems do this all the time. Obama is just an arrogant fool and has paid people to troll and make it seem like McCain is doing bad. Their entire purpose is to make people feel horrible about McCain. Not to mention, a lot of people had their hopes up and got let down...add that onto the trolling attacks, along with Mr. arrogant Obamessiah slinging mud left and right, it makes for what APPEARS to be a successful "strong" campaign and in contrast shows how "weak" McCain is but really, he was the one telling the truth. There are many conservatives/republicans in America and they show up on election day. Not all of America is stupid. They know there is only ONE poll that counts, there is only one day that will truly matter, that is November 4th.
I was almost sure 2000 and 2004 were going to the democrats and what do you know! Bush got em both times.

Don't fall into the trap guys, it's exactly what they want. We can't just give up.

I thought McCain missed a golden opportunity to show Obama's hypocrisy. When Obama had just finished saying once again that Iraq wasn't responsible for 9-11, Brokaw asked if it was appropriate to use the military for humanitarian causes or is it only for issues of national security. Obama referenced the holocaust and basically said sometimes you should use the military for a humanitarian crisis. That's when McCain should've reminded Obama about the rape rooms, the meat grinders, the mass graves, and the thousands of Kurds gassed by Saddam Hussein. Then he should've reminded the American people that this was the regime we put an end to, and that Barack Obama expresses nothing but regret and outrage over it. I hope someone will point this out over the next few days, but I doubt it will happen.

Sadly, this type of place wasn't really a good one to attack. I mean, I'm pretty new to the political genre and all but since it was basically the candidates answering questions from the people, it is hard to get certain stuff in. I do agree, however, that there were times were Obama left the door wide open for attack but I think McCain wanted to stick on the topics instead of having it turn into a mud fight. I think, though, that McCain needs to get out there and really go on full-out attack mode. I am not so sure these debates are the proper places to do that in though...but they still got rallies, and I hope to God he starts slamming Obama and pointing out his lies and contradictions big time.

thanks independant..........
I wish McCain was running against Hillary or even Kerry, then I wouldn't feel so bad if we DID lose! At least we'd not go socialist, our freedoms would be intact and there would be reasonable people in the WH.
Don't get me wrong, I'd STILL want McCain/Palin in there, but in this case, it's more a case of urgency and fear. At least I just disagree with them, I don't fear them.

A point was also hit that I agree with - this was not so much a war about oil or land, etc - people were being EXTERMINATED and tortured for simply disagreeing or speaking out publicly. Thousands, tens of thousands. Mass graves. We vowed "never again" after WWII, yet how soon Americans forget. If we don't stand up for some of these people, no one will. Are we to turn away? Then what happens if we are on the other end?

McCain was honest, anyway. I wish folks would dig into the PUBLIC senate other other gov sites - you can check voting records, the text of bills, etc. They'd see what a two-faced person O really is.
