Biden/Obama would reinstate draft

It's pretty plain once you read all the comments and hints. Draft for all.

WOW! I have to admit that when I first read that thread title, I thought it was a bit of hysterical paranoia. But after reading the comments of both Biden and Obama, I can totally see how this conclusion can be reached. People who fear McCain because they're worried about a draft should be paying much closer attention to Obama. I had no idea he had made the comment "If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some."

I had been saying all day that the newsmedia has been focusing on the wrong part of Biden's statement. It's not that the new president will be tested. Duh. They tested Bush, after all. It's the way he talks about the response to that test, and about the other aspects of their administration. Whether it's the draft or something else, Biden admitted that they have something horribly unpopular planned for this country. Something that has to do with not having the military capacity to dictate the outcome of wars. To me that means either a draft or a turn tail and run from our enemies policy.

Then he goes on to talk about the domestic policy the same way. They're going to have to make "tough decisions" to undo the work of the Bush administration. I take that to mean tax hikes on that other 95%.

Whatever they've got planned, it's not going to be popular according to Joe Biden. This is the point of the whole speech. This is what McCain's campaign should be zooming in on and sounding the alarm about. We finally have an admission that the Obama campaign had a reason to be vague about their plans for us. They know their plans will cause their polling numbers to nosedive and their influential supporters to want to turn on them.

And I wish they'd quit calling it another "gaffe." What he said, he said in earnest. The only mistake was in forgetting the press was there.

Boy, what a mistake a draft would be. Can you imagine our military with drafted Obots? Get the white flag ready.

I also see the end to the Bush tax cuts, which would result in a tax INCREASE for me, would it not??
Even if you assume Obama gives me a tax break, what happens if (or when!) they allow the tax cuts from Bush to expire?
People don't realize, Bush cut taxes pretty deep for the middle class if I'm not mistaken.

I have no doubts personally that an Obama admn will indeed re-institute the draft. Look back 40 years to the Vietnam war. Who got us involved in that one and ordered the first combat troops to be sent in March of 1965? President Johnson, Democrats. And yes the Democratic controlled Congress ordered a draft. Who got us out? Nixon - Republican with the Paris Peace Agreement in January, 1973.

Who was in charge when the Korean War began in 1950? Harry Truman -- whoops, another Democrat. The Korean War began in June 1950 and we withdrew in July 1953. Who was President in 1953? Eisenhower - Republican.

Who was in charge in WWII? Democrats again under FDR. WWI? President Woodrow Wilson -- again -- Democrats. The only exceptions are Gulf War One (Republican Bush 41); and the War on Terror (Bush 43). Even Kosovo was Clinton (D). However, I would point out neither Bush 'war' utilized a draft. Both wars have been 100% volunteer military.

In our history military DRAFTS have been 100% laid at the door of the Democratic party so this one should be no surprise and no exception. To have Democrats back in complete power again during a war and once again raising a draft should be no surprise to anyone who knows American history. REAL History, not Democrat propaganda that Republicans are the 'war mongers'.

If Obama is to be believed as well about his "Civilian Police Force LARGER than the military" expect DRAFTS into that one as well. Probably through force and intimidation would be my guess.

As far as tax cuts go -- oh yeah -- say goodbye and hello to the most massive tax increases we've ever seen. Barack "Hoover" Obama will lead us steadily into another 1930's era depression -- count on it.

This is why I'm always fascinated by the claim that Bush gave tax breaks to the rich. Every middle class family who got tax cuts from Bush (not to mention stimulus checks) should know full well just how "rich" they are.

I think this is what Biden was referring to in the other part of that speech, when he spoke of their domestic policy. He warned that they would have to make tough decisions because they have to clean up the mess Bush has allegedly made. Either he was just trying to blame the current economic trouble on Bush, or he was saying they would be raising everyone's taxes to undo what Bush did when he cut taxes.

It's the stated goal of Pelosi and others to let the Bush tax cuts go away.
That's another reason I'm fearful of them - that would mean in increase in my taxes that would more than offset anything Obama "gave" me.
If they do both, it's my understanding the net impact would be an increase - Bush's cuts were more than Obama's would be for some middle-income folks.

I know it varies from family to family, but some could actually face MORE taxes IF they allowed the Bush cuts to expire, or they "canceled" them. That's the part they won't come right out and say...........

I'm calling my sons and telling them to NOT come back to the U.S. Stay in Asia.... it's safer right now, and cheaper to live over there.

I do believe that McCain is anti-draft. Most military lifers are...they dont want to be protected by people who dont want to be there.

Biden/ Obama....draft scary on so many levels.
