Why you should fear O and B (pass it along)
Greetings and thanks for taking time from your busy days to read this. I would like to comment on something I read about a comment by Joe Biden:
>>Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said Thursday that paying more in taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans. The Republican campaign for president calls the tax increases their Democratic opponents propose "painful" instead of patriotic.<<
I"m going to talk to you as what I consider myself to be - an average person, middle-income (roughly 50K a year plus 30 something for my wife's income)
We drive to work - we drive a 1982 AMC Eagle SX/4. It ain't pretty, but she runs. We have a Liberty but it's too expensive to drive now with the gas prices, etc.
Back in 1999, we bought a quilt shop that wasn't doing really well and lacked direction.
We made massive changes, she put her personality into it. When we bought it, the husband of the P/O said "if managed right, this store could gross 300K a year".
That first year, we did a bit over that (gross, mind you, NOT profit!) In the following years, we built a heck of a reputation and blew his figures away. We were an S-corp. This means our business taxes were figured out on one form, then the profit from the store, the S-corp, were added to our other income and we paid taxes on that. Store profits and taxes were part of our regular income. This is more common than you think.
We had several employees and because we both had full-time jobs too, hired a full-time manager. We tried to pay them well, and if the store did well, we gave them from our own pockets, bonuses (cash).
Now, because this was all done through our personal income, figured on our 1040s, what-if...... what if old Joe and O considered us to be wealthy Americans and decided we needed to be more patriotic? Well, I'll tell ya what would have happened. We'd have had to let someone go, bonuses would have gone down, and our manager would not longer have gotten an extra check to cover her insurance (we gave her a monthly check to go buy whatever health insurance she needed. Can't say it covered it 100%, but if she shopped, it might have)
So, we "wealthy Americans" would have had to cut back in our business expenses.
I'm telling ya all our personal stuff here because I think most Americans have no idea where their paychecks originate from if they work in a retail store or some other small businesses. You raise my taxes, I'm going to have to cut back somewhere, and trust me, I'll resist cutting back at home, it will be in the business expenses so we can maintain our profits.
This is much more common that that side wants to admit. But the Republicans seem to know this. Take a look at the facts and figures - who is Republican, who is Democrat, etc. The stats tend to imply, and no offense as there are ALWAYS exceptions, but in GENERAL, more Republicans tend to be small business owners. So, if more Republicans are small business owners, can it follow that they may know a bit more about small businesses and how they work?
I'm telling you, if we still had that store, I know who I'd be beating the pavement to help get elected as I'd fear for my business, my profits, and my employees (most of whom we also considered to be friends)
Republicans want you to get ahead, want to to make more money, want you to be able to open/buy/run small businesses and hire others. It's called "free-market" and if allowed to work properly, makes the U.S. a prosperous country unlike socialist or communist countries...........

Great article. Why the population doesn't understand this simple theory I don't know. It seems quite simple to me. We have been in business for thirty years with one small business or another. Right now our business has five employees. One of our companies had up to a hundred employees. I can't tell you how many times we took from our own personal monies to make sure our employees got their paycheck. Still, we were considered the evil rich boss. They have no idea about the sleepless nights, tears, and fears, one goes through being an employer. It is always easier for people to have a whipping boy for their life miseries and unfortunately too often it is the "boss" or the republican they have been taught to blame.

Sarah mentioned Biden's patriotic tax statement in her speech this morning. That is not going over well at all.

Feel free. It's the LEAST I can do - speak from PERSONAL experience.
It's all what we really went through and know as former small business owners.
And until recently, I've always been in business or worked FOR a business.
I now for for the State of Iowa.
We just couldn't handle the business pressures and risks any more, so sold out in 2005.
(we did come out ahead - and guess who was president during that time......)
Small businesses are probably the biggest employers. Yeah, I know, there's GM, Ford, HP and so on, but take ALL of the small businesses in this country, mom & pop stores, and so on, and add THOSE up.
EVERYONE is in business or runs a business or works for a business to make a profit. That's no sin. That's America. (Farming is a business too, I did that for 7 years)

I was in the musical string business (while working full-time to afford to continue) for about 8 years. Never really saw a profit, but had a lot of fun. I noticed bluegrass or country musicians might try to bargain you down, but many of the "elite-always-right-always-ready-to-lecture" folk musicians would steal you blind if you let yourself get distracted.
I've cut and pasted your comments, and they got such favorable notice, a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat tried desperately to change the subject !

Yes, it was greed that cause the collapse this week, but not greed of investors and Wall Street...........
