Canadians to Americans: Don't make your healthcare like ours
Powerful video exposing the disaster a socialized healthcare system would be for the United States. This video is powerful testimony that McCain's plan is a far better plan if you actually want to stay alive if you get seriously ill or your children would get seriously ill.
Remember.....if Obama's plan becomes reality - there will be no plan B. You can't just go across the border like Canadians do now. And Canadians are scared to death, they depend on our CURRENT system to get quality healthcare. If Obama's plan passes they are screwed as well.

I lived in Canada for a year. It is very broken system and does not work.
And WA State has huge medical clinics along the border to serve the Canadians.

Absolutely. And if Obama is elected and gets his way, you can say goodbye to those clinics serving the Canadians. Our clinics will become just like theirs -- months long waiting lists for treatment. McCain should be asking voters, "If you don't mind waiting months for treatment with delayed care, then vote for Obama. If you want a system that still provides medical care in a timely and efficient manner our ticket is the best choice."

Socialized medicine DOES NOT WORK . . . ever. I seriously doubt people will want to go to emergency rooms to get help because they can't see their doctor. Forget having a good OB-GYN. In Canada, the restrictions on those doctors has made them extinct. Where are they practicing? In the US.

Here's how it works in S. Korea.
My son, Luke, lives and works in Korea. He had to have emergency surgery for his gall bladder.
When he went to the first doctor said he had a stone or two and would probably need surgery (he was pretty miserable) Not an emergency, go home it will probably get better. IT did not, he was not able to work, let alone get out of bed.
Another doctor a couple days later says it's much worse than that, there are many stones and it's in bad shape, must be removed.
So you go to hospital and you make out your check, then they operate.
Only problem was, Luke didn't have the 5 grand for the surgery! Typically, you pay first, then collect from insurance if you have insurance. He was lucky - he still had his insurance (provied by himself) through an American agent and company. He contacted his agent who actually PAID himself out of pocket telling Luke he'd settle with the insurance company later.
We can gripe and complain, but we have some of the best medical care in the world. I do think some costs need to be contained and there are some injustices, but a total overhaul isn't the answer. And Obama's plan will make it worse. You can't FORCE an insurance company to cover pre-existing conditions or cover very sick people without the costs SKYROCKETING! Face it, they won't take a cut in profits! So costs for ALL OF US will shoot up. And if the government helps to cover said costs - where does THAT money come from? US, so we still pay!
I've not heard too many Canadians saying they have a great medical system..... certainly no one has said "you Americans really need a system like ours". I've not heard that from any country.

Absolutely. Insurance companies will be out of business in no time under this "plan".BillD wrote:We can gripe and complain, but we have some of the best medical care in the world. Are you allowed to buy homeowners insurance after your house burns down? Can you buy car insurance after your car is totaled? Of course not. Car and homeowners insurance companies would cease to exist if this were their practice. Pre-existing condition exclusions are simply a way of assessing risk. I agree healthcare needs reform, but putting doctors out of private practice and making them civil servants is not the answer. Our system will turn into a collective sh*thole.

Want to know the damndest thing about the nationalised socialist health system in Canada? Some hospitals remedy the waiting list with the patient paying money out of pocket. If it wasn't so serious I'd laugh at the irony.
